Presented by the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department\, 6/28 will showcase Carson Peters and Iron Mountain. \nCarson Peters and Iron Mountain is a high-energy\, traditional bluegrass band based in the Appalachian Region of NE Tennessee\, SW VA\, and Eastern NC. The band is led by Carson Peters\, a young music prodigy from Piney Flats\, TN. He has been playing music and entertaining audiences since the ripe old age of 3! Carson has been blessed to make numerous national TV appearances including his latest as guest fiddler for Mr. Ricky Skaggs during the 52nd Annual CMA Awards. Carson is blessed to get to tour the US and Canada entertaining audiences with his band IRON MOUNTAIN; an awesome group of Christian musicians that he also calls his best buddies. Carson and the band love to play bluegrass\, bluegrass gospel\, and “grassed-up” vintage country. Their love for God and playing music is a contagious atmosphere and brings smiles to their audiences. \nBring along a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy an evening of free live music. Performances will begin at 7 PM. SUMMARY:78th Annual Rhododendron Festival
DESCRIPTION:June 1947 saw the first of the Rhododendron Festivals\, conceived and carried out by the Roan Mountain Citizens Club as a two-day celebration to memorialize and perpetuate the most gorgeous display of natural beauty on the North American continent. This festival has continued uninterrupted for over sixty years. \nThe festival is held annually in June. Originally the festival was held at the top of Roan Mountain. In recent years the festival is held in Roan Mountain State Park\, located at the foot of Roan Mountain and features handmade crafts\, food\, and a variety of traditional music\, plus an array of old-time folkway demonstrations. \n \nLocation: Roan Mountain State Park\, Hwy 143\, Roan Mountain\, Tennessee (Between Asheville\, NC\, and Johnson City\, TN on US HWY 19-E\, and only 40 miles from Boone/Blowing Rock\, NC\, and 20 miles from Banner Elk/Beech Mountain/Linville\, NC) Also\, the Appalachian Trail\, as well as an official Tennessee Scenic Drive\, run through our community. \nParking by donation to local civic group\, admission\, demonstrations\, and entertainment all day both days. Over 100 arts and crafts vendors. A variety of food available. Visit the world’s largest natural rhododendron gardens atop 6000-ft Roan Mountain. DESCRIPTION:Years in the making\, we are thrilled to announce our First Annual Thriving Through The Thicket music festival\, a benefit for Recovery Resources TN. This will be a Friday evening\, and Saturday event hosting lots of regional talent including some very close to home. This is a family friendly event with activities for the kids\, great music\, connection and community. All proceeds will go directly to the mission of Recovery Resources TN\, “empowering our communities to thrive beyond addiction.” Our goal is to continue to offer safe\, stable sober living for men in the region recovering from substance use as well as increase our capacity to provide family engagement for those men to stabilize their lives and return to their families. Our event will take place at the Northeast Community Credit Union Ballpark in Elizabethton\, TN. \nAs a grassroots recovery organization based in Northeast Tennessee\, we believe in the healing powers of community and music. Our hope is to provide a place where we all can come together to empower our communities to thrive beyond addiction. \nWe currently have 11 residences in Northeast Tennessee and provide much needed support services to over 100 individuals in recovery from substance use disorder. A huge part of our mission is to reintegrate individuals into their communities where they can live\, thrive and be productive members of their families.\nWe have witnessed the integral part that music and fellowship has played in our own journey. DESCRIPTION:June 1947 saw the first of the Rhododendron Festivals\, conceived and carried out by the Roan Mountain Citizens Club as a two-day celebration to memorialize and perpetuate the most gorgeous display of natural beauty on the North American continent. This festival has continued uninterrupted for over sixty years. \nThe festival is held annually in June. Originally the festival was held at the top of Roan Mountain. \nIn recent years the festival is held in Roan Mountain State Park\, located at the foot of Roan Mountain and features handmade crafts\, food\, and a variety of traditional music\, plus an array of old-time folkway demonstrations. \nLocation: Roan Mountain State Park\, Hwy 143\, Roan Mountain\, Tennessee (Between Asheville\, NC\, and Johnson City\, TN on US HWY 19-E\, and only 40 miles from Boone/Blowing Rock\, NC\, and 20 miles from Banner Elk/Beech Mountain/Linville\, NC) Also\, the Appalachian Trail\, as well as an official Tennessee Scenic Drive\, run through our community. \nParking by donation to local civic group\, admission\, demonstrations\, and entertainment all day both days. Over 100 arts and crafts vendors. A variety of food available. Visit the world’s largest natural rhododendron gardens atop 6000-ft Roan Mountain. Hike the Appalachian Trail as it runs along the border of Tennessee and North Carolina. Learn about our nation’s history as you relax beside cool streams. Camp or stay in a rustic cabin. Swim. Play tennis. \nCitizens Club will have Roan Mountain cookbooks\, auto tags\, and tee-shirts are available for purchase at the festival. See them at our tent under the big oak tree. We’ll also be selling ice-cold canned drinks and bottled water. All proceeds go to Roan Mountain community projects at schools\, fire department\, etc. \nA Mini-Auction for Scholarships for Cloudland High School Graduates will be conducted between performances.
